Mino

Hi there, my name is Jonathan Minori. I was born and raised in Tipton, Pennsylvania. I spent a few years in the Steel City of Pittsburgh before making a move out west to Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm currently employed as a Art Director at Struck Creative, and I also freelance under the name Minoflow.

When I'm not working behind the monitor you can find me skiing, biking, hiking and pretty much any other outdoor 'ing'. I've also got a bit of a vinyl toy fetish. I'm going to try my darndest to keep this blog updated but I'm not much of a writer so it will probably be more odds and ends with the occasional self promotion. If that sounds like your cup of tea then stick around or shoot me an email, I love talking to people.

Abnormal Hunt

Abnormal Hunt is a wallpaper I finished for Struck.  I started it about four months ago then put it on the back burner to focus on other projects.  I added some more polish and those iconic Struck hammers and wallah.

About two months ago I purchased this single speed bike to use as a commuter.

dawes commuter bike

With high gas prices and a somewhat flabby body it’s a win win.  Since my commute is mostly flat I decided to go with a single speed to keep the bike light and easy to fix.  Here is a map of my route.

Roughly 2 miles each way isn’t a whole lot but it’s enough to get the blood pumping and brain going in the morning.

So it’s been a while since I’ve done another Munny doll, but this weekend I finally got around to it.  Here are a few shots of the body that needed a lot of shaping.  I had a horrible time finding the right clay to stick to the vinyl.  I ended up using this stuff called Efaplast which is similar to super sculpty but it’s water based so it can air dry.  Once it’s dry it can be sanded to a smooth finish.  The clay went on pretty well and now that its nice and dry I will be giving it a coat of primer, a final sanding and then it’s all painting and coloring from there.

Stay tuned for more updates, hopefully I’ll be able to finish it soon!

GM Used Car Ambush

GM Used Car Ambush
Responsibilities: Concepting, art direction, design, motion, compositing, partial audio design, van interior set design and shoot direction.

This project lasted approx. 4 months from concepting to final development. We were hired by Mullen to bring their concept to life.  We played a large role in defining what happens within the site as well as how it looks, moves and sounds.  One of the highlights of the project was building the set inside of a chopped van.  We then brought in a motion controlled camera crane to get all of those seamless transitions.  Behind the scenes on Deconstruckt.  It’s only been a few days since it’s official launch but it’s already gotten some buzz here and here

Mini Carfun Footprint

Mini Carfun Footprint
Responsibilities: Design, motion

We were pretty stoked when BSSP asked us to help develop a website that will allow car owners to calculate how fun/green their car was.  Then when they said it had to also function in a rich media banner we really got interested. The carfun footprint ‘widget’ and everything within the site was designed/animated/coded with the smallest filesize in mind.  We were able to pull it off and at the end of the day we had a pretty happy client.

My role on this project was to design the widget interface in Photoshop to hand off to get designed, textured and animated in 3D by Adam & Jeramy.  I’m really pleased with how the final version came out and I’ll post the original PSD in my portfolio.  Other pieces of the site that I led was the motion of the interface as well as the two short films you watch before your receive your fun and green score.  I was responsible for the storyboards and motion while another team member illustrated the scenes.  All in all it’s a really clever piece that turned out really nice.

I try to set aside some time in my day to take a break and flip through some of the design/motion web sites out there.  I stumbled across this little gem on Design You Trust and immediately fell in love with the concept and art direction.  It’s not a bad little tune either!  Give it a look.

It looks like the 07/08 ski season has finally come to a close.  It’s still undetermined whether Snowbird will be open next weekend but I think it’s safe to say that we got our last turns and burns in this past weekend.  It’s been a great season and next year is only 4 months away!
